1.BIGO BYA MUGENYI

Bigo Bya Mugenyi a late Iron age settlement of Uganda, the capital of the Kitara or the Chwezi Dynasty, and occupied from 1000-1500 AD.  The site includes an enormous (nearly 4 square miles) enclosed area with villages and forts which was surrounded by a 12 foot ditch dug into the bedrock (http://archaelogy.about.com/bio/K-Kris-Hirst-3021.htm).

According to other sources, Bigo Bya Mugenyi is located on a land approximating to 930 Acres.  The place has a tunnel for cultural sites including a place for a big drum unattended to and many things which have not been put together now in Bulongo Sub-County.

2 BIHOGO COW

Another conjuring historical aspect is of the cherished long horned breed of cattle that are believed to be descendants of the Bihogo Cow.  This cow was raised by the Chwezi King called Ndahura.  This cow is said to have been the favorite one to King Ndahura and was raised in a compound known as Enkomi ya bachwezi, which was a cyclical compound of the bachwezi with most of the Bachwezi’s important assets.  Up to date, the descendants of the Chwezi Kingdom are innately obsessed with this breed of cattle.

3 RAMSAR CONVENTION SITE

On 18th September 2006 Uganda added nine wetlands to the list of wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.  This convention included on its list a triangular area in Lugusuulu whose composure includes an area where Kyoja wetland joins Katonga wetland.

The triangular area mentioned in the preceding paragraph is about 2.5km and it has rare species of animals and plants.  The animals include Statunga (Enjobe), black and white Columbus monkeys (Engeye), and some rare terrestrial animals that eat fish in water.

The geographical scenery of this triangular area does not need a telescope or binoculars if viewed from a stretch in parts of Kawanda Sub-county in Greater Lugusuulu Sub-county.

 4 KAKINGA DAM

Another historical development is of the 10km long Kakinga dam located in Nabitanga Sub-county in Lwemiyaga County.  It is the biggest man-made dam in East and Central Africa and located around the famous old Bachwezi, Bigo Bya Mugyeni palace.  This dam is said to have been constructed under the directive of one of the Kings of Buganda Kingdom.    Some historians say this dam is 8km long, something which is contrary to its actual length of 10km
